"I was lucky to be among the first few agents in the company."

Meet Brighton, an Invisible operator for 5 years as one of our first-ever agents, and now he’s a Team Lead.

I spoke with Brighton this week about his experience at Invisible over these 5 years. In that time, he’s come to call Invisible a family. Here are some of the highlights from our conversation:

What are Your Top 3 moments at Invisible?

How did you get started at Invisible?

Brighton: "I started at Invisible immediately after my graduation. I studied for a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. During that time I was really into web programming and basically doing some other project management on the side. After graduation, I applied on a number of tasks under the Upwork platform, and I was lucky to be among the first few agents in the company."

You mentioned when we chatted on Slack that Invisible has been like a family to you. Can you tell me more about that?

Brighton:

Some of our colleagues I’ve talked to have mentioned they value the flexibility Invisible offers, especially in a remote-first environment. Has that been your experience, too?

Brighton: "I tend to deliver the best in the comfort of home because I have a family. Just a small story, before my graduation, when I was expecting my first child, I got contacted by a US-based web programming company that was prospecting talented Kenyans to harness their skills and up their game in the software world.

"I qualified. It started with 10,000 prospects, got down to 5,000, and then was narrowed to 10, and I was one of the first 10 people to be selected. But that’s where we parted ways."

Wow, really? Why did you choose to part ways?

Brighton: "They wanted me to go to the office. I would have been forced to wake up at 4:00 in the morning so that I can reach the job by 7:00 am, and then when I leave the job at around 5:00 pm, I’ll reach home at about 8:00 pm. That’s 6 hours on road a day!"

I imagine you get to spend quite a bit of time with your family now, is that right?

Brighton:

Finally, when was the time you felt most successful at Invisible?

Brighton:

Thank you for being a fantastic leader at Invisible, Brighton!
