Invisible Spotlight

"I will work hard to stay within the Invisible organization as long as I can, because this is something that I have never experienced and I am forever grateful."

Gabriela has a colorful background. She’s owned a food stand, and worked in the film industry. She also has valuable advice for anyone who wants to join Invisible!

We had a chat to learn more about her:

Where are you located?

Raleigh, North Carolina

What language(s) do you speak?

Spanish & English

Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and how many?

We have one fur baby (cat) named Moscow Da Bois. My partner and I are looking to adopt a second kitty.

What did you do before coming to Invisible?

I worked in the Food industry for sixteen years, and went to film school. I worked as a Film Festival Submissions Coordinator, and ran an underground zine for a year. I also worked in finance/banking, and have experience as an Academic Administrator. I opened my own food stand during Covid lockdown, and now I am in school for Supply Chain and Operations Management.

Why did you decide to join Invisible?

The world of AI is a fascinating one, and I wanted not just a front-row seat, but to be part of it at a level of higher impact. I was lucky enough that my partner was in the Advanced Maths Team and told me there was an actual opportunity for someone with worldly knowledge like mine to help out!

What are your top 3 moments from your time at Invisible?

Sarah, Sarah, and Sarah! She’s our team lead. She just makes everything easier, better, but also challenging enough that we grow confident in our knowledge and skills within Invisible.

What would be your theme song when you log in to work every day?

Runnin' Down a Dream by Tom Petty.

How have you grown at Invisible when you compare your experience on Day 1 with your experience now?

My confidence has gone up and my stress has gone down. This is invaluable and I will work hard to stay within the Invisible organization as long as I can, because this is something that I have never experienced and I am forever grateful.

How would you describe Invisible to someone thinking about joining the team?

Do it! It's a bit wild, but it's a new world. Like any game, tabletop or video, you've got to learn the mechanics of it first to then be able to enjoy the game. Be patient and take your time, ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS and try, try, try to do things on your own until you're stuck!

What is it that keeps you at Invisible?

My increase in confidence and decrease in stress. I want to learn more and once school allows it I will push myself into higher positions. For now, I am happy where I am and know that I can be more helpful here.

"My confidence has gone up and my stress has gone down."

Thank you for the wise words, Gabriela! We value your contribution.
