"My family is very very happy that this opportunity came by."
Meet Harrison, a Kenya-based Invisible operator for almost 2 years now. While being a fantastic contributor at Invisible, he’s used Invisible’s competitive pay and flexible environment to complete a degree in statistics at the University of Nairobi.
But that’s not all. He completed a software engineering Bootcamp, too, with ambitions to boost his own skillset and leverage those skills at Invisible.
And one more thing: He might be our best unofficial recruiter. He brought a team of 10 with him from a previous job after telling them about Invisible.
I got a chance to speak with Harrison this week. Here’s some of that conversation:
Harrison: The first time I applied for it, I did not get in due to a lack of certain things, like my internet speed was below the requirement. The second chance I had a chance to apply, I had to use my neighbor’s WiFi. Then after the first payment, I boosted my internet speed.
I started on a process for QA, then moved to another project soon after. I learned a lot, especially at the Coffee Talks! Being that I was a second-year student at the University of Nairobi, I learned a lot from the projects, like being able to manage both academics and work.
Harrison:
Harrison: My friend, who is more like a brother now, first sent me a link and told me to apply. I was working at a different company, and I brought a whole team with me!
Harrison:
Harrison: I come from a family of 4, 3 boys and 1 girl. My mother is very very proud of me because since I joined Invisible. I’ve been able to cater for my own things: I pay my own rent, I pay my own bills. It’s a relief on her side because she is a single mom. I pay for some of her bills. My family is very very happy that this opportunity came by.
Harrison: I’m not married, and don’t have plans to get married anytime soon because I know the responsibility that comes with it haha!
